Families first
When a family is facing a cancer diagnosis, the bills don’t pause. We help local families carry the financial weight — so they can focus on each other, not on making ends meet.
The Mike’s Great Day Project carries forward the legacy of Mike Johnson — teacher, coach of spirits, and the loudest laugh in any room — by turning compassion into action for families facing cancer, for cancer research, and for the next generation of Archmere students.
Donations are processed through Zeffy, which passes 100% of every gift to the Project.
The Mike’s Great Day Project is dedicated to carrying forward Mike Johnson’s legacy of enthusiasm, kindness, and community-building by turning compassion into action. Our mission is to support local families facing the financial challenges of a cancer diagnosis, provide meaningful contributions to organizations advancing cancer research and patient support, and invest in future generations through a scholarship at Archmere Academy established in Mike’s name.
Inspired by Mike’s enthusiasm, kindness, generosity, and ability to bring people together, we strive to ease burdens, create opportunities, and strengthen our community. Through acts of service, charitable giving, and educational support, we seek to ensure that Mike’s spirit continues to make a difference — helping others find hope, connection, and the opportunity for a great day, even during life’s most difficult moments.

We contribute to organizations advancing cancer research and standing beside patients through treatment — the science and the support that give families more great days together.
Mike spent his career lifting up students at Archmere Academy. A scholarship in his name invests in future generations there — his classroom, extended indefinitely.
Michael C. Johnson, Jr. · 1984–2024 — the man behind the mission, and the reason all of this exists.
If you spent any time at Archmere Academy, you knew Michael C. Johnson, Jr. — Mike to everyone who loved him — probably before you ever saw him, because you heard him first. A beloved teacher, the school’s campus minister, and Co-Director of Student Life & Culture, Mike led Kairos retreats and made it his life’s work to make every student feel like they belonged. He was loud, joyful, and gloriously larger-than-life — the kind of teacher kids remember for the rest of their lives.
Mike’s road to Archmere started at St. Joseph’s Prep and Villanova University, where he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees. He began his career in finance before finding his true calling in education, and in 2007 he became Archmere Academy’s Campus Minister — going on to teach math and serve as Co-Director of Student Life & Culture, shaping the minds and hearts of thousands of students along the way.
His wardrobe was its own curriculum: a seemingly bottomless rotation of RVLT shirts, and a costume for every occasion. Captain America. A giant penguin. Macho Man Randy Savage. Inflatable suits of every description. If there was a chance to make a room full of teenagers laugh, Mike took it — usually at maximum volume.
That same energy carried into everything he did at Archmere — pep rallies, retreats, hallway conversations, and the everyday moments in between. Mike had a gift for gathering people, making newcomers feel welcome, and turning an ordinary school day into something students would remember. Colleagues and students alike knew him as someone who showed up, cheered loudly, and lifted the mood of any room he entered.
That was his mantra, his greeting, and his philosophy — shared with his students daily and lived by himself. The Mike’s Great Day Project exists so that his enthusiasm, kindness, and community-building keep going — one family, one student, one great day at a time.
A casino night fundraiser in Mike’s honor — because he never missed a chance to gather everyone he loved in one room. Thirteen casino tables, a karaoke room, dinner, and a room full of his favorite people.
